Frankie Knuckles was universally known as ” The Godfather of House” Music not only by Chicagoans but by the entire industry. He was honored by Chicago radio stations, bbc1 radio, local Djs that had moment of silence for him across Chicago clubs and even by A list Djs visiting the city the weekend of his death. Now the city of Chicago  pays tribute to Frankie with one grand gesture. A 3 hour dance party in the center of the city’s millennium park on Tuesday June 3 from 6-9 and the best part it is free!! [RIP] Frankie Knuckles – Godfather of House Music

The sad news started circling the internet on Monday evening March 31, Frankie Knuckles the Godfather of House music has passed away.Given that it was the eve of April fools I hesitated to post or re-post anything I’ve read until I could verify the news was true and unfortunately it was. I’d be lying if I told you I has a huge fan, or that I’ve even seen Frankie spin. I haven’t. I started listening to the likes of Alice Deejay, Darude, Dj Irene, Lasgo and Scooter before moving into the more mainstream Tiesto, Benny Benassi and more; none of which could have gotten any sort of success if it weren’t for Frankie Knuckles and the leap of faith he took by  single highhandedly creating a new genre of music which was later called House.

If you’d like to learn a little more about Frankie knuckles check out the few links I included below:

Check our Rolling Stone’s magazine covering a nice autobiography of Frankie Knuckles life giving you insight on how it all started link is HERE. To see Rolling Stone’s Magazine pick for Frankie Knuckles 5 defining tracks click HERE.To get a better feel for the type of music that EDM came form here is a list of 20 best Chicago House records according to Rolling Stone Magazine.

Whether you like the music or not, I hope you can take away something from this. Quite possibly the most influential and import person in our scene has passed away, being from Chicago we owe it to at least learn a little about him.
