Borgore – The Buygore Album Review [2/4]

Buygore Album

Just 6 short months after releasing #NewGoreOrder, Borgore releases the Buygore Album. Releasing the album on January 13, Borgore attempts to generate even more hype for The Buygore Show Tour which starts just two days later in Orlando, Florida. Borgore is making a his Chicago tour stop on Saturday February 7th to a sold out show at Concord Music Hall. Dotcom, Riggi & Piros and Sikdope join Borgore in select cities on tour as supporting acts. The album itself includes collaborations with all tour mates as well as other artists including Ookay.

borgore - the buygore show tourThe Buygore Album is sure to please the most hardcore and ratchet of Borgore fans, but will certainly let down the casual fan, like me, who needed a bit convincing to buy what he is selling. This short 8 track album has everything you would expect: the raunchy lyrics, R rated themes, ridiculously weird sounds, some trap and of course Borgore singing.

The opening song “Blow Your Mind” (feat Borgore) is as good as trap gets, at least for me. With Ookay behind the song it’s sure to please the trap lovers, and warns the audience that this is not in fact the #NEWGOREORDER Borgore we came to love but yet another reincarnation. The absolute gem of the album is “Set Free” (feat. Yael), her voice takes the track to level no amount of bass or dirt can do to any other of Borgore’s tracks. She was also featured in one song on #NEWGOREORDER and I doubt this is the last well see of her.  “Cant Squad with us” is the most dubstep song of the album and is sure to start a new hash tag trend on twitter. Borgore provides the calm yet dissing lyrics to all his haters while the filthy drop pleases the ears of any Borgore/dubstep fan.  “Nope” feat Shay Gray gives you a heavy dose of hip hop influence with a good beat so it definitely grows on you.

“Lindsay Lohan” feat. Juaz has a good steady beat and deserves credible mention, but unfortunately its boring and mundane. It’s a house song that never was. It is but it isn’t and that’s why it’s neither good or bad, it’s just there to take up space.

The line is drawn with “Dolphin Attack” and “Space Kitten Invasion”. “Dolphin Attack” at least structurally makes some sense while “Space Kitten Invasion” is just way out there. I have no clue how this song will work itself into any of his set but I guess we’ll have to find out on Saturday night.

My final collusion is that I miss the #NewGoreOrder Borgore. Maybe it was a more mainstream sound but I didn’t feel awkward listening to it. I already went from liking a select few of his old tracks to loving #NewGoreOrder giving it 4 out of 4 stars, but I cannot give this average album more than an average 2 out of 4. Here’s hoping Borgore blows my mind at Concord Music Hall.

Headhunterz goes hard with style in Chicago!

Friday May 23rd 8:00 P.M. doors opened at The Concord Music hall. People from all over the Chicago-land area piled in for a night that would start off a great Memorial day weekend. Atmosphere was pretty calm and security made sure to keep a hassle-free entrance that night. Opening acts were Animale and Xposur who warmed up the crowd by playing a majority of deep house music. The night began and music set the tone. Some shuffle/ footwork battles busted out on the dance floor during the opening acts, personally I waited to bring out “the moves” until the main act. Anticipation filled the air as the crowded dance floor waited for the one and only Willem Rebergen, also know as Headhunterz.

I was never a fan of hardstyle until I first witnessed it for myself live back in October 2013, main dj just happened to be Headhunterz. The sound and feel of 150+ BPM changed my perspective on hardstyle forever. His return to Chicago was no disappointment.

Headhunterz started off his set with his very own Dragonborn, very first sign of that kick drum started off the madness. I’m sure pedestrians outside on the corner of Milwaukee and Armitage Avenue felt the intensity that is hardstyle. Ravers jumped, bodies flew, and probably the greatest part, the floor shook non-stop. The only people that kept their energy mellow were the hard-working employees of The Concord Music hall. Those with enough stamina displayed their footwork, their hardcore shuffle, jumped like no other with their jumpstyle, and expressed their fun as they hopped throughout the night. Rebergem threw in some trap music and “turned the crowd into a mosh pit” with his remix of Flosstradamus’ Mosh Pit. I know for a fact some people came out of it a bit bruised and battered. Other songs that many may have recognized were Colors, Never Say Goodbye, and Spaceman. Lasers and strobe lights entertained the visuals as the music stimulated the ears. The energy of the room remained on high from the beginning to the end of Rebergen’s set. Confetti filled the air as he closed his set with his remix of Kaskade’s Lessons in Love.

A big “Thank You!” to Headhunterz from the WhySoChi family and all of Chicago for giving us a show that’s one for the books. Image

[RECAP] PAUL OAKENFOLD 05/16/14

image-21Paul Oakenfold played the late show in Chicago – his first stop for his Trance Mission Tour. His tour attracted all types of fans including the old school fans and ravers, new ravers, and people that did not even know who he was but heard it will be a good show. Fortunately for us, we got to meet him in person and were able to take a selfie!! He seemed to be in a rush, so we did not get to talk much. The show actually went in a different direction then we thought. Paul Oakenfold is known for for trance, however, the show seemed a bit “hard”. He played some oldies and a lot of tracks by other producers as well. Although we liked the music, we were not satisfied with his particular crowd. They seemed a bit more pushy then usual and not very “plur”.

C-H-U-C-K-I-E in C-H-I-C-A-G-O

The king of dirty dutch himself graced us with his presence the weekend of valentines day as he performed with 3lau at Concord Music Hall just a week after the ceiling came down at the venue just 15 minutes into Datsik’s set. In spite of much drama on the internet that the show wouldnt go on, it did. For a while it seemed that Chuckle would never come on as 3lau played a pretty lengthy set, and once Chuckie did make it to the decks he announced that he need 3 turntables to be set up and he only had 2, pushing him to start 15 late. Chuckie made up for it though by playing till 3:20 and then taking the time to shake hands with the fans one of which Mario (whysochi) was able to give Chuckie a piece of kandi.

Chuckie’s set started out with fast paced transitions between always well matched songs. He threw in some hits like Steve Aoki’s version of Kid Cudi’s “Pursuit of Happiness” as well as dropping “Smells like teen Spirit” by Nirvana to a “show me what you go till the mothaf****n beat drops” which amped the crowd up even more. Trap was mixed in throughout the set.

About midway through the set Chuckie went to his classics including “Who is ready to Jump” and ” What Happens In Vegas Stays In Vegas” also a great choice of songs in my opinion. The closing 20 minutes or so were all trappy, but Chuckle mixed it all well. For those who don’t know already Chuckie will be back in town for Spring Awakening this June!

The night was a success for more many reasons one of which was the fact that the WhySoChi crew raged for the first time in almost its entirety as only one member was missing. As always we saw some follower and fans which is always great! See you guys at the next show!!
