Flosstradamus @ The Aragon Ballroom 12-26-14 [Recap]

The major duo of Josh “J2K” Young and Curt “Autobot” Cameruci were clearly a must see as they made a stop in their hometown of Chicago during their HDYNation Tour. The anticipation grew so large for Floss; who can be best remembered for their legendary parties at the Boystown dive bar Town Hall Pub, it was no surprise that the whole Aragon Ballroom venue was sold out. The crowd brought an interesting mixture of both EDM and hip hop lovers.Floss 12-26-14 (2) logo

GTA warmed up the crowd right before Floss came on to destroy. After seeing GTA this past summer at Electric Forest my expectations were definitely set high. GTA rocked the crowd playing the perfect mixture of trap and house. GTA clearly set the right mood for Flosstradamus to come on stage.

Floss opened with a bang and blue smoke which soon revealed their gigantic stage that stood high with the HDY Nation flagged dropped down from the top of it. Josh “J2K” Young popped out with his HDY Nation flag and commanded all the HDY grlz and HDY boyz to raise the Floss symbol in the air. When “Original Don” came on everyone went insane, after all it was the song that started it all for Floss.Floss 12-26-14 (3) logo

Floss threw it down dropping hit’s like “Roll Up”, “Coco”, “Climax”, “Stoner”, “Pillz”, and of course “Mosh Pit.” Floss took immediate crowd control commanding the 5,000 people in the crowd to take out their lighters and phones while all the lights were shut down. Simultaneously the crowd swayed side to side as the music slowed down. The show was overall great, but I do admit I had bigger expectations for Floss going harder considering Chicago is their hometown. Looking back to seeing Flosstradamus almost two years ago, this show can be considered just a bit disappointing.

Dillon Francis at The Aragon 12/5/14 [Recap]

After listening. to Dillon’s new album “Money Sucks Friends Rule” it was clear to me I wanted to see him when he  made his tour stop in Chicago.  That says a lot considering the last time I saw Dillon in Chicago he played at the Aragon Ballroom with Excision and both were disappointing to say the least. Since then Dillon has released several hit tracks; “Messages” and “Get Low” just to name a few that lead to his album release.

Read WhySoChi’s official review of “Money Sucks Friends Rule” HERE.

IMG_7503-logoTrippy Turtle was a nice surprise as the opening act right before Dillon came on stage. He played a nice mix of 90’s rap songs with a trappy remixes and mash ups. The crowd responded well and got down to the funky beats.

From the moment Dillon came on, dropping the black sheet covering up his intricate stage set up, it was clear it was going to be a great show. He started out with “I Cant Believe It’s Not Butter”  which matched the already high energy the crowd was projecting. Dillon did nothing short of facilitating a high energy house party in a mainstream event with 5000 of his closest friends. The whole set was fun. The confetti drop was great and having the whole venue sing along to ” When We Were Young” brought everyone together.

Check out the handful of pictures i took from the balcony before rushing downstairs to join the party.

TomorrowWorld 2014, Mario U’s Review!!

So, let me give a bit of a background on myself, I dj, currently learning to produce dance music, and I’m also part of a up and coming Dj duo FinalSound. So I have a bit of a background in the scene, I’ve attended numerous undergrounds, after hours, and festivals over the past 7 years with that said I’d now like to discuss the festival of TomorrowWorld.

We arrived in Chattahoochee on Thursday the day of the Gathering around 2 in the afternoon, We got our stuff out of our vehicle and dragged it to the entrance which was about maybe a good 900 ft away. The line to enter Dreamville was ridiculous, obviously we were not the only ones in line but it literally took us about 2 hours to reach the search point where security checks your camping gear and whatnot. There were K-9 units there for narcotic searches but truth be told the dogs seemed less interested in the people and more interested in staying in the shade. Once we got to our campsite which is decided by basically falling into a spot after the person in front of you we set up camp, fortunately for us we followed the rules and our group entered together so we could all camp right next to each other. Our neighbors were from Vegas, Canada, New Jersey, Mexico, the UK there were people from all over the world. This is one of the key components to this festival, the camping experience, I personally believe no other festival can replicate your camping experience like TomorrowWorld.

The following 3 days consisted of nothing but pure bliss, the stages all of them were mind blowing. The amount of detail and effort that went into each stage is mind blowing, I have never seen production such as this. The line up was just as amazing I saw Laidback Luke, Dannic, Deorro, Dimitris Vegas & Like Mike, BlasterJaxxx, Bassjackers, the list goes on forever. By far the most diverse line up the states has ever seen. This festival in my opinion takes the cake for all camping festivals, any festival for that matter. Security was great, prices were decent, showers were awesome, the vibes were amazing. I highly recommend anyone to go to this festival, it is something you will talk about until it comes again the following year. Mad props to ID&T for throwing such an amazing festival here in the states, youll catch me there next year, thats for sure!!
