Dillon Francis at The Aragon 12/5/14 [Recap]

After listening. to Dillon’s new album “Money Sucks Friends Rule” it was clear to me I wanted to see him when he  made his tour stop in Chicago.  That says a lot considering the last time I saw Dillon in Chicago he played at the Aragon Ballroom with Excision and both were disappointing to say the least. Since then Dillon has released several hit tracks; “Messages” and “Get Low” just to name a few that lead to his album release.

IMG_7503-logoTrippy Turtle was a nice surprise as the opening act right before Dillon came on stage. He played a nice mix of 90’s rap songs with a trappy remixes and mash ups. The crowd responded well and got down to the funky beats.

From the moment Dillon came on, dropping the black sheet covering up his intricate stage set up, it was clear it was going to be a great show. He started out with “I Cant Believe It’s Not Butter”  which matched the already high energy the crowd was projecting. Dillon did nothing short of facilitating a high energy house party in a mainstream event with 5000 of his closest friends. The whole set was fun. The confetti drop was great and having the whole venue sing along to ” When We Were Young” brought everyone together.

Check out the handful of pictures i took from the balcony before rushing downstairs to join the party.

Feed Me at the Aragon- 8/23/14 [Recap]

feed_me_psychedelic_flier_frontwebSo I’ll start this off by saying I got tickets to this show for free, that alone kinda made me think twice about going. I had heard of Feed Me before, heard some of his tracks and thought it was decent, but not enough for me to pay to see him. So granted, free show, lets see how he is live. The Aragon for the first time that I’ve seen wasn’t packed for a dance show, which was odd and I understood why people were giving out free tickets. Needless to say the acts leading up to Feed Me were mediocre, I was basically counting down the minutes until Feed Me was on. The minute the curtain dropped to reveal Feed Me’s stage set up, which were giant LED teeth shaped screens, I was absolutely amazed. This man is a UK Duster genius, completely blew me away, by far one of the best shows I’ve been to in a few years. The vibe was great, the track selection was on point, all in all Feed Me should have been a sold out show. I definitely recommend ANYONE if you have the opportunity to attend a Feed Me show, you wont regret it.

Chicago’s Moment of Clarity

Saturday December 30th at the Aragon Ballroom, over 4500 people filled the dance floor for one of the last “Moment of Clarity” shows.

Doors opened around 8pm, and all those who waited out in the Chicago weather for awhile had the chance to situate their belongings. Luckily enough it wasn’t until 8:30pm that Valentino Khan took the stage. Khan ran the trap and instantly hyped up the crowd by dropping Carnage’s trap mix of Hardwell’s “Spaceman”. Following Valentino Khan was DANNIC, who played hit after hit but most intense song and crowd pleaser was his mix of Fatboy Slim, Riva Starr & Beardyman’s “Eat Sleep Rave Repeat” with Steve Aoki’s drop that is “Boneless”. The wild crowd then eased into a state of calmness provided by the melodic mix of electro and R&B beats as Classixx took the stage. As the dj duo continued with their set playing their single “Holding On”, it wasn’t until they played their version of Drake’s “Hold On We’re Going Home” that the crowd finally got into the groove. Classixx mellowed the crowd by their unique sound to have everyone ready and energized for Anton Zaslavski, most commonly known as Zedd.

Energy filled the entire room as the crowd heard the very first sound of Zedd’s presence on stage. Opening song was his very own single “Spectrum” which the massive crowd just stood, arms raised and sang in unison. Following his very first drop the crowd became lost within the music. Remix after remix the room’s level of energy constantly increased which became an experience worthwhile.  Zedd’s visual and light shows are beyond belief when collaborated to his unique style of mixing. Astonishing lights and music provided by Zedd guided everyone to dance the night away. When every single person in the room stopped jumping and dancing, they stood to sing beautifully altogether songs such as “Spectrum”, “In My Mind”, “Stay The Night”, and most well-known “Clarity”. The Aragon radiated nothing but good vibes by the amazing people that filled it. Zedd closed his unbelievable set by playing his “Lost At Sea”. Last night Chicago witnessed a Moment Of Clarity.
