TomorrowWorld 2014, Mario U’s Review!!

So, let me give a bit of a background on myself, I dj, currently learning to produce dance music, and I’m also part of a up and coming Dj duo FinalSound. So I have a bit of a background in the scene, I’ve attended numerous undergrounds, after hours, and festivals over the past 7 years with that said I’d now like to discuss the festival of TomorrowWorld.

We arrived in Chattahoochee on Thursday the day of the Gathering around 2 in the afternoon, We got our stuff out of our vehicle and dragged it to the entrance which was about maybe a good 900 ft away. The line to enter Dreamville was ridiculous, obviously we were not the only ones in line but it literally took us about 2 hours to reach the search point where security checks your camping gear and whatnot. There were K-9 units there for narcotic searches but truth be told the dogs seemed less interested in the people and more interested in staying in the shade. Once we got to our campsite which is decided by basically falling into a spot after the person in front of you we set up camp, fortunately for us we followed the rules and our group entered together so we could all camp right next to each other. Our neighbors were from Vegas, Canada, New Jersey, Mexico, the UK there were people from all over the world. This is one of the key components to this festival, the camping experience, I personally believe no other festival can replicate your camping experience like TomorrowWorld.

The following 3 days consisted of nothing but pure bliss, the stages all of them were mind blowing. The amount of detail and effort that went into each stage is mind blowing, I have never seen production such as this. The line up was just as amazing I saw Laidback Luke, Dannic, Deorro, Dimitris Vegas & Like Mike, BlasterJaxxx, Bassjackers, the list goes on forever. By far the most diverse line up the states has ever seen. This festival in my opinion takes the cake for all camping festivals, any festival for that matter. Security was great, prices were decent, showers were awesome, the vibes were amazing. I highly recommend anyone to go to this festival, it is something you will talk about until it comes again the following year. Mad props to ID&T for throwing such an amazing festival here in the states, youll catch me there next year, thats for sure!!

EDM Banned from Congress Theater

“LOGAN SQUARE — Some of the biggest names in EDM have played the Congress Theater in Logan Square, but electronic dance music is now banned from the old movie palace under an agreement between the city of Chicago and the theater’s embattled owner.” –  excerpt taken from a  Darryl Holliday article.

For the full article follow this LINK

Congress Theater and its owner have had their share of battles with the City of Chicago which eventually led to the loss of its liquor license in May of 2013. This is the latest in Congress Theater news and arguably the most popular EDM hosting venue in Chicago is now banned from hosting EDM events.

Headhunterz goes hard with style in Chicago!

Friday May 23rd 8:00 P.M. doors opened at The Concord Music hall. People from all over the Chicago-land area piled in for a night that would start off a great Memorial day weekend. Atmosphere was pretty calm and security made sure to keep a hassle-free entrance that night. Opening acts were Animale and Xposur who warmed up the crowd by playing a majority of deep house music. The night began and music set the tone. Some shuffle/ footwork battles busted out on the dance floor during the opening acts, personally I waited to bring out “the moves” until the main act. Anticipation filled the air as the crowded dance floor waited for the one and only Willem Rebergen, also know as Headhunterz.

I was never a fan of hardstyle until I first witnessed it for myself live back in October 2013, main dj just happened to be Headhunterz. The sound and feel of 150+ BPM changed my perspective on hardstyle forever. His return to Chicago was no disappointment.

Headhunterz started off his set with his very own Dragonborn, very first sign of that kick drum started off the madness. I’m sure pedestrians outside on the corner of Milwaukee and Armitage Avenue felt the intensity that is hardstyle. Ravers jumped, bodies flew, and probably the greatest part, the floor shook non-stop. The only people that kept their energy mellow were the hard-working employees of The Concord Music hall. Those with enough stamina displayed their footwork, their hardcore shuffle, jumped like no other with their jumpstyle, and expressed their fun as they hopped throughout the night. Rebergem threw in some trap music and “turned the crowd into a mosh pit” with his remix of Flosstradamus’ Mosh Pit. I know for a fact some people came out of it a bit bruised and battered. Other songs that many may have recognized were Colors, Never Say Goodbye, and Spaceman. Lasers and strobe lights entertained the visuals as the music stimulated the ears. The energy of the room remained on high from the beginning to the end of Rebergen’s set. Confetti filled the air as he closed his set with his remix of Kaskade’s Lessons in Love.

A big “Thank You!” to Headhunterz from the WhySoChi family and all of Chicago for giving us a show that’s one for the books. Image
